Tutorial: The Spring

INFO

Hey! Here’s a card flourish tutorial that details one of the most powerful card flourishes ever created; the Spring.

This Virtuoso card flourish tutorial outlines every detail needed to perform the Spring; the exact grip, the pressure required to spring the cards, the grip needed to receive the cards, the sound to listen out for, the method to make it crazy long whilst keeping it clean, and even how to ‘drag’ a spring to ’slow-mo’ it in realtime.

So, whether or not you’ve learnt the “spring” card flourish before, take a look at our take on this one, cause you just might pick up something new. ;)

    Sweet tutorial yet again guys.

Huron: Your spring grip is exactly the same as mine. I also push into my right finger with my pinky finger slightly, to stop the ring finger slipping off the side of the cards.

I always think of the catching hand like a claw, which the cards bang into to prevent sliding off the hand.

The direction the thumb points in is something I’ve not actually observed before. It came with practice, and I never noticed, but it’s good to have it confirmed by someone else!

    Keep them coming Virtuoso!

    -Dave

“somehow my cards will flip midair and land face-up instead of face-down”

same here, some advice would be great.

    still awesome tutorial!

  30. The Virts says:

    hey gnj and Kang!
It’s probably because you’re holding the cards too deep. Try a little closer to your fingertips. =)

    Huron Low, The Virts

  31. gnj says:

    Thanks for the fast answer,

it helped a little, the cards still mess up sometime though.
I have the suspicion that the angle of my fingers is a little wrong, cause when im holding the cards at the sides they dont flip. Perhaps I need more practice…

    • The Virts says:

      @gnj

Yeah, at first it can be a little tricky, but given enough practice and tweaking you should be able to refine your technique so that you’ll be able to perform the spring properly. All the best!

      -Kev, The Virts

  32. Lumbee lightning says:

nice very helpful cant wait to see the others

  33. Henvey says:

Very good tutorial! I helped me a LOT, but everytime I try to increase the length of the spring the cards shoot away from my hand and is just plain messy but if I make it short I get it perfect. Any extra advice?

  34. Bryan says:

What if when i practise the spring until a point where my thumb is pain :x
izit because i practise too much or am i using the wrong technique?

  35. John says:

    cool…
    looks effortless

  36. THEanthony12101 says:
